Flo

Original digital-to-physical · Aluminium panel, UV ink, high-gloss automotive clear coat

$10,000

A figure in white crosses a sequence of glowing stepping stones toward a horizon of orange and violet. The stones never quite connect into a path. He crosses them anyway. Flo is named for a friend who moves through life his own way: his own route, his own timing, turning up when he turns up. The work is not about arriving. It is about being fine on a path that does not join up. The blue holds the room cool, the horizon warms under evening light, and the figure keeps walking toward a distance that keeps its distance.

From the studio

Flo is a friend from high school. He turns up when he turns up, into numbers, into astrology. You do not schedule Flo. He arrives. The figure here is him, crossing on stepping stones that never quite join into a path. Not lost. Just going his own way, toward a distance that keeps its distance.

Living with this work

From across the room Flo reads as a figure walking into a sunset. Up close the gaps between the bars become the thing you notice: the path does not connect, and once you see that you cannot unsee it. The blue expanse shifts with the light through the day, clean in the morning, deeper in the afternoon, warm at the horizon under evening lamp light. The figure keeps walking toward a distance that does not get closer.

Where it lives

Room by room: where this work thrives, where it struggles, and exactly where to hang it.

Room fit

The cool blue expanse and the warm horizon make this responsive to light across the day. Morning light holds the blue open and clean. Warm evening lamp light advances the orange and violet at the horizon. Position at 145 cm to center on a white or neutral wall with 1.5 to three meters of clear viewing distance. The figure and the bars need space to read as a receding path.

Strong fit

Position Flo above a sleek nightstand opposite a window, allowing soft morning light to breathe new life into the colors. This setting encourages quiet contemplation and daily inspiration.

vonMoerenburgh

The Hague, The Netherlands

48,000 miles. Panama to New Zealand, Brazil to Hawaii. vonMoerenburgh was crossing the Pacific, then crossing it again, from a different angle. The ocean kept finding him. Eventually, he stopped leaving.

He came to art late. Thirty years in design, gaming, and publishing, then at 49, he started making art. The work is built on a digital foundation, finished by hand with crystal glass pigments that shift with the light. The same surface reads differently depending on where you stand and what the light is doing.

He always meant to go to art school. This is what happened instead.
